Monkey nuts are simply peanuts that are still in their shells.
These are a great supplementary food because birds have to get into the shells before they can get to the reward inside, so it keeps them busy and provides a mental workout!
The Tit family are particularly keen on monkey nuts and will often pick them over shelled nuts despite the shelled nuts being much easier to eat.
